Ethnobotanist and community activist Leigh Joseph — also known by her ancestral name Styawat — launched plant-based skincare brand Sḵwálwen (pronounced squall-win) Botanicals in 2017 as a way to reconnect to both her Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) heritage and the land. Thoughtfully formulated with ingredients foraged locally in respectful ways and carefully handcrafted in small batches in her home workspace in Squamish, British Columbia, the line draws on a combination of spiritual and scientific teachings.
