JR - Migrants, Mayra, Picnic Across the border, Tecate, Mexico-USA, 2017
Description
At the US-Mexico border, in Tecate, French artist JR invited local residents for a “giant picnic” across the wall in a project that offered a sense of community in a heavily politicized context. A huge photograph of the eyes of Mayra, a “Dreamer” — or a young undocumented immigrant falling under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program — laid atop the installation. With this responsibly-made deck, The Skateroom creates a highly impactful wall display, with the option to take it out for a ride.
