One of the most influential artists of our time, whose work is often cited alongside Basquiat and Warhol, Keith Haring did more than provide street art for the downtown set—he used his art as a call for social action and political change. Inspired by Egyptian hieroglyphics, Haring created his own visual language through a set of symbols that are repeated throughout his iconic creations. From his 'radiant baby', signifying the future and perfection, to 'the dog', symbolizing humanity or religion, to 'the embrace', a comforting image of humanism and love, Haring's work was many things to many people, but above all, a war cry against injustice and a charge to rise above to retain one's individuality and humanity.
