A Considered Few

Silja Danielsen Torres

Seattle-based chef and recipe developer Silja Danielsen Torres reflects on choosing well and creating a home shaped by nature, travel, and family life. Her selection brings together functional, thoughtfully crafted pieces that elevate everyday rituals, foster connection, and earn their place through daily use.

Living Well: Considered pieces for the everyday

I love curating the most fascinating, rarely visited places, functional and beautiful products, and unique and hyper-regional meals all over the world, while appreciating the beauty of well designed spaces and thoughtful, meaningful service and food. I don’t collect things simply because they’re beautiful, I’m drawn to objects that earn their place in our home through daily use, and those that create memories for our family.

I grew up in Seattle with two Norwegian parents who brought a little piece of their home country with them. They raised me with their own Scandinavian lifestyle in mind—where good design isn’t about having more, but choosing well. Beauty wasn’t something reserved for special occasions, it was woven into the everyday. A wooden cutting board worn after years of slicing homemade bread. A kettle whistling, signaling the start to early mornings. Candles lit around the dinner table on an ordinary Tuesday because everyday moments are worth appreciating and making cozy and memorable.

That philosophy has shaped not only the way I cook, but the way we’ve designed our own home. As we’ve slowly worked to renovate our little A-frame in the woods, from the deck and bathroom to our kitchen and living spaces, every decision has been guided by the same question: Will this make everyday life feel calmer, functional, and better connected to the natural oasis that surrounds our home? I’m drawn to earthy materials like wood, stone and wool, thoughtful craftsmanship, and pieces that improve the way a space functions without demanding your attention.

I believe a home should feel lived in and the spaces we create and the objects we bring into the home should support the way we want to live, inviting us to cook together, gather around the table, and spend more time being connected to the outdoors.

As a trained chef, recipe developer, and model, Silja brings together a deep appreciation for food, travel, and thoughtful living. Her work is shaped by a life spent exploring the world with her family, drawing inspiration from local ingredients, traditions, and the quiet beauty of everyday rituals.
