Margarita Andrade and Goya Gallagher — two Ecuadorian childhood friends living in Cairo — decided to create their own line of locally-crafted products when they noticed the lack of high-quality Egyptian bedding and home linens in the local market. Inspired by the rich and layered heritage of Egypt, Malaika is on a mission to promote the country’s traditional crafts, from textiles to pottery. The brand, whose name means 'Angels' in Arabic, also makes a meaningful social impact by training and employing underprivileged women and refugees, giving them a chance to become financially independent.
