If the gardener in your life doesn’t have a pair of pruners, Niwaki’s Tokusen Secateur Set makes a thoughtful gift. Combining functionality and elegance, this trio of finely crafted Japanese hand-pruners includes:
- Tokusen 165mm: a smaller pair that fits perfectly in the palm of your hand. Perfect for light garden pruning, deadheading and cut flowers. Although smaller than the full size Tokusen 210mm, it’s not just for small hands!
- Tokusen 210mm: powerful and beautiful with a punchy spring and coil cushioning for heavy and more demanding pruning.
- Tokusen Barracudas: for all gardening requirements. Longer blades than regular secateurs, but with a chunky bypass blade for woodier pruning. Ideal for everyday woody cuts.
Expertly hand-forged in Japanese S58C Carbon Steel by master craftsman Yamakawa San, these secateurs are easy to sharpen to a keen edge, ensuring precise cuts every time. The cherry on top? They come wrapped in hand-dyed tenugui cotton and presented in a beautiful Paulownia gift box.
Although Japanese carbon steel is durable, it can chip if mishandled, so use with care.

Niwaki Use + Care Instructions
Correct Use:
- Japanese steel is hard and sharp, and can be more brittle than some people are used to - it will chip if abused
- Do not cut wire, metal, stone, plastic or any other hard material
- Do not twist or apply uneven pressure
- Cut diagonally across branches (not straight across) so you cut along the fibres
- Use the base of the blades, not the tips, for heavier cuts
Keeping Them Clean:
- Remove leaf resin, rust and gunk with water and a rough cloth
- Dry, wipe over with oil and store in a dry place
Keeping Them Sharp:
New tools won’t need sharpening for some time, but after a while you’ll notice them gradually lose their edge. Use our Niwaki Maintenance Kit for best results (#1000 grit is best for general sharpening).

We currently only ship to Canada and the US (except PO boxes, APO/FPO and US Territories).
Your order will be shipped DDP (Delivery Duty Paid) so that you don't have to pay extra fees upon delivery. Please allow 2-10 business days for delivery from receipt of tracking. Add 5 business days for shipments to Canada.
Free shipping on orders above $175USD is applicable to USA and Canada orders with exception of Hawaii and Alaska where air shipping rates apply.
Selective items categorized as furniture, rugs, lighting, long brooms, and oversized are exempt from free shipping. A shipping charge for these items will be charged on your order at check out. Freight charge does not include assembly.
We hope you’ll love your purchase. In case you need to make a return, you have 30 days from receipt to send eligible items back to us, with the exception of furniture and rugs. You have 14 days from receipt to send eligible furniture and rugs. Items that are customized or special ordered are not eligible for return. Items discounted by 50% or more are considered Final Sale and are not eligible for return.
