Making paper from wood has a significant impact on the environment. Determined to re-engineer paper manufacturing in a more responsible way, Australian entrepreneurs Kevin Garcia and Jon Tse found inspiration in Taiwan and launched stationery brand Karst in 2017 in Sydney with a unique collection of paper products made from repurposed waste stone — otherwise known as calcium carbonate. With no water and harsh chemicals needed, Karst’s partly solar-powered production process generates fewer carbon emissions than pulp-based paper.
